Choose Discomfort

One of the greatest threats we all suffer from is comfort.

If that sounds wrong to you, consider these facts:

  1. Keeping your honest opinions to yourself is more comfortable than telling the truth
  2. Staying warm is more comfortable than going out into the cold
  3. Hanging out with friends you have grown apart from is more comfortable than saying no
  4. Being passive is more comfortable than doing sports
  5. Staying in a job you don't like is more comfortable than quitting and trying to freelance

And all of these things will wear down your mind, body and spirit in the long term.

The truth is that discomfort is the basis of growth, balance, and the integration of countervailing forces in your body and soul.

When you choose discomfort you can:

  1. Be honest with those around you knowing that if you lose them as friends you will make friends who are more aligned with you
  2. Spend time in the cold knowing that it resets your body's nervous system and fights inflammation
  3. Say no to social engagements that no longer make sense so you have time for the things that make your heart light up
  4. Exercise regularly and do sports to keep your body in good shape and increase your vitality and health for the long term
  5. Quit your job and freelance knowing that freedom is worth more than compliance

If you ever face the choice between discomfort and resentment, choose discomfort.

If you have the choice between discomfort and regret, choose discomfort.

If you have the choice between discomfort and disappointment, choose discomfort.

Discomfort is not the same as pain, and you can endure much more of it than you expect.
